  • Research Interests (300 words)
My research interests include beneficial plant-microbe interactions, in particular mycorrhizal fungi and their role in promoting nutrient acquisition. I am also interested in soil health, agroecology, and microbial inoculants. I am currently working as a researcher investigating bacteria capable of promoting crop nutrient acquisition.

  • Profile Question 1
What is best about being a scientist?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
The best thing about being a scientist is spending a lot of time doing something that fascinates you, surrounded by people who love it too! Scientists also do important work that can help the world be a better place.

  • Profile Question 2
Can you describe your attitude toward science when you were in high school?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):
I was not interested in science AT ALL when I was in high school. I didn't enjoy taking chemistry or biology classes. I thought it was ridiculous how we had to learn things that didn't really apply to our daily lives. I thought, "Who cares how many molecules there are in a chair or what equations I use to calculate its mass? It's a chair!". Now, I realize that the science I was learning in high school didn't align with what I was really interested in - plants and food systems. I also didn't understand what a scientist actually did. I assumed that they wore lab coats and poured mysterious liquids into beakers. Now I know that there are a huge variety of scientists studying fascinating things and doing a diversity of work.

  • Profile Question 3
Do you have advice for students about preparing for a science career?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 3 here (300 words):
Get some hands-on experience, if possible! I didn't fall in love with science until I actually interned in a real research lab. There are so many preconceptions about what "science" is and you won't know what area of "science" you like until you try it.

Hi team,

Thanks for sharing your evaluation questions and answers. Could you clarify the first point for question 3? Does it mean that you had too may towels in the petri plate and that the plants didn't receive enough water because of it?

Hi Fine Furry Pickles,

Great job with this experiment! I think your conclusions match the data you collected and it's great you have some ideas for future experiments. I think a line graph data works best to display data over a period of…
