  • Describe your teaching experience and interests in a brief public biography (200 words)
I have been teaching science to 7th and 8th grade students for 15 years. I cover curriculum in all of the sciences: Life, Earth, and Physical. I try to include as many hands-on activities in my classroom, even if many are "cookbook" lab activities. I have added inquiry lessons/projects over the years, usually after attending a teacher summer workshop. Teaching is my second career; I worked in industry for 6 years as a research chemist and 3 years as a supervisor in a metallurgical lab at a steel mill. As a teacher, I have tried to include real-world applications in my classroom; I want my students to see the possibilities of future careers in science and/or become good citizen scientists.
