  I study plants throughout Texas. Many studies focus on how plants provide habitat for birds and other animals. I also audu fire effects, rare plants, restoration of many habitats, and birds.

  What is best about being a scientist?

  I spend my day asking questions: why does this cactus grow here and not there? Why do birds like this patch of forest? How can we restore this grassland? And then I get to figured out the answers to those questions, which no one else has asked or answered.

  Science is all about asking questions, so spend time being curious! Spend time outside, take things apart, read about topics that interest you. Along the way, you'll find even more to be curious about.

  I love a little plant called fluttermill. It has large, bright yellow flowers that look like giant drops of sunshine. And it makes giant seed pods that have four wings.
