  • Time Zone
    Pacific

  • Organization
    University of Washington

  • Role
Scientist Mentor: I will mentor teams of students online

  • Research Interests (300 words)
I'm a plant physiologist and plant modeler.
I am interested in understanding how plants respond to various climate factors, how these responses can feedback on climate, how we can represent these processes with computer simulation models, and what questions can we answer with these modeling approaches at a large spatial scale under a changing climate.

  • Profile Question 1
What is best about being a scientist?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
The best about being a scientist is that you get to explore the edges of human knowledge.
There are so many things about how the world functions that are still mysteries to us, and being able to explore that unknown is the most exciting and fascinating thing about being in science.

  • Profile Question 2
What is tough about being a scientist?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):
Research is often a lonely journey.
Science is not an easy task. It requires lots of patience and hard work, and most of the times you're facing it alone.

  • Profile Question 3
What is the coolest thing you have discovered or learned about plants?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 3 here (300 words):
Plants have the ability to shape their environment.
Plants not only respond to the surrounding environmental factors to try and maximize growth and productivity but these responses can feedback on the environment as well. Plants can influence the temperature, rainfall, and humidity surrounding them. They also play a huge role in the global carbon cycle. They not only played a huge role in shaping our world's current environment but also have significant influence over how our world may evolve under a changing climate.
