    I study the molecular genetics of circadian rhythms in plants and am also interested in biotechnology.

    When and why did you decide to go into a science career?

    I didn't decide on a career in science until I tried academic research for myself in college. I found it empowering to ask my own questions, design my own experiments, and follow through to find answers. I still do that today as a graduate student.

    What is best about being a scientist?

    The best thing about doing science is knowing that your work is adding to the collective knowledge of humanity, even if only in a small way, and is contributing the advancement of technologies that can improve society.

    What is your favorite plant? Why?

    My favorite plant is the tomato because its easy to grow, tastes delicious, and reminds me of summer.
