I have a question about the experimental design. How will you measure soft rot? Do you have an idea of where to get the pathogen for the experiment? You might want to get isolates from cucumbers and from potatoes and compare the source of the isolate on the other vegetable to what happens when it is put on the same vegetable as it was isolated from.

Carolina,

Watering the plants three times a day might be a bit excessive and with the fertilizer in the treatment groups, it could be causing the growth issues. You might water just once a day to see if that helps.

Hi, I'm Alma Laney and I'm an Assistant Professor of Virology at Utah Valley University. I received my BS in Microbiology from Oregon State and then my MS in Plant Pathology and PhD in Plant Science from the University of Arkansas. I specialize in working with plant viruses that are transmitted by arthropods as well as the interactions of abiotic stresses (such as drought or salt stress) on plant hosts, viruses and their vectors.
