    My major research interest is the mechanisms involved in the formation of adventive embryos, the subcellular structure of nucellar initial cells, embryos and the pollen of plants exhibiting nucellar embryony. My areas of interest include propagation and conservation of desert plants, their reproductive biology and seed germination. Currently my focus is on exploring how biodiversity contributes to sustainability.

    What was the first science experiment you ever designed? How did it turn out?

    Designing an experiment in grade three to observe conduction of water in plants - By keeping Peperomia pellucida (shiny bush) plant in water to which red ink was added. A successful and thrilling experience.

    When and why did you decide to go into a science career?

    I decided to go into a science career when I was in middle school. I was always fascinated by nature and natural science.. As a young girl I spent a lot of time in my garden and on the farm and I was enthralled by everything I saw and it roused my curiosity to find out how things happen in nature.

Are you comparing leaves that are thin, thick, hairy or with wax cuticle? Do the chosen plants have  leaves of almost similar sizes (surface area)?

It would be interesting to study the differences between C3 and C4…
