Research Interests (300 words)I study the number, size, and type of structures (propagules) dispersed in boreal forests. These propagules are produced by bryophytes (hornworts, liverworts, and mosses) and lichens. I also look at how the environment (wind speed, temperature, humidity) and the bryophyte and lichen flora (diversity) affect the number, size, and type of propagules dispersed to different habitats. Understanding this propagule dispersal may tell us how bryophyte and lichen diversity is maintained in boreal forests.

Profile Question 1What is the coolest thing you have discovered or learned about plants?
-
Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):Plants can survive in almost any type of environment on Earth. They live in hot and cold deserts, fresh and salty water, low to high elevations, and even in places where there is little sunlight for up to six months.

Profile Question 2What is your favorite plant? Why?
-
Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):Orchids are my all-time favorite plant. Their flowers can be of different colors, sizes, and shapes. Color in orchids goes from white, cyan, red, yellows, to a dark brown that looks like black. Some orchid flowers smell like chocolate, coconut, marshmallow, and even lemon. Others may stink up your place like if something is rotting. Their shapes are so diverse that some may look like bees, dancing ballerinas, bearded men, and ducks. Orchid are quite exquisite little plants.

Profile Question 3What is a typical day like for you?
-
Answer the question you selected for profile question 3 here (300 words):I wake up and prepare myself for work. Then, I get in the lab., look at my notebook to see what I have to do for the day. Sometimes, I spend the day reading and writing. Other days, I culture plants under very clean conditions, collect plants near a river, have meetings with other scientists, write emails, and or identify plants in the lab.
All I can say is... I don't have a typical day. :D

Hello Kim, welcome. You don't have to have things figured out and that is ok. University/college guides you to areas of interest that you may pursue, trades school can also do the same thing. Teachers in your school may give you some idea about…
