  • Research Interests (300 words)
My current research interest is to study the interaction between plant immune receptor and small peptide hormone. My PhD works are trying to understand the relationship between autophagy and hormone signaling in plant. Autophagy is a degradation pathway in all eukaryotes (including plants) which functions by recycling cellular components during development or under stress conditions. It’s a process that cells “eat itself” to rearrange nutrients. Our research group is trying to understand the complicate molecular mechanism that plant regulated in response to dynamic environmental conditions. This research will help us to know how plant “fight” under stresses. Before this project, I also participated in different plant research topics, such as plant-pathogen interaction and gene function characterization of rice. The plant pathology project I participated in involved generating rpfF and rpfB gene deletion mutants of Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. citri, a plant bacterial pathogen causing citrus canker. Our research group was trying to understand how biofilm formation and cell-cell communication between bacterial pathogens cause plant disease. Since issues like global warming, food crisis and climate change are of increasing concern over the last few decades, I also was interested in crop research. I was working on a functional analysis of a novel plant-specific gene that controls rice grain size and weight in rice.
