Profile

  • Time Zone
    Central

  • Organization
    Kansas State University

  • Role
Scientist Mentor: I will mentor teams of students online

  • Research Interests (300 words)
I am interested in the plant sciences, including horticulture, plant pathology, entomology, and ecology. Although the items above are my personal favorite research interests, I am interested in a variety of other topics and would be willing to participate in mentoring any type of science.

  • Profile Question 1
Can you describe your attitude toward science when you were in high school?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
Science was intimidating and challenging for me when I was in high school. It wasn't until I went to college and took a botany class that I became extremely interested in the biological sciences.

  • Profile Question 2
What is tough about being a scientist?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):
The hardest thing about being a scientist is being persistent and creating new solutions to problems when experiments are not working. "Never give up" is a phrase that I have always been very familiar with, but it wasn't until I became a scientist that I truly understood how important it was to keep trying.

  • Profile Question 3
What is the coolest thing you have discovered or learned about plants?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 3 here (300 words):
The coolest thing I have learned about plants are how adaptable they can be. For example, the Texas Bluebonnet changes the color of its' flower once it has been pollinated to let pollinators know that flower has already been pollinated.

  • Capacity: How many teams at a time are you comfortable working with?
