Our Outcomes
I participated in this program with my 6th grade biology class for the first time last year and was very pleased with the experience. My students gained a deeper appreciation of the scientific method, especially the experimental design phase that is so often short-changed in the classroom. They also benefited greatly from communicating with their mentors, learning from their expertise and gaining practice in professional communication styles. As a teacher, I appreciated having an expert in plant biology at hand to help guide students as they chose experimental questions. I used to work in a neuroscience lab, which has taught me the importance of mentorship within a specific research field, so being able to provide that to my students in a field outside of my expertise was huge.
