About Our Class

What We're Doing
- Planning to Start: 6/26/23

- Theme: The Power of Sunlight (photosynthesis and respiration)

Our Outcomes
All Participants will:
- understand the Power of Sunlight module (goals, structure, storyline, content) by participating in activities much as students will.
- increase understanding of a set of science practices highlighted in Power of Sunlight activities.
- know how to recognize and counter common preconceptions related to photosynthesis and respiration as well as common stereotypical views students have about scientists.
- Learn how pedagogical strategies can support and improve student learning.
- Understand the roles of student/mentor/teacher/liaison and how these roles work together to realize student learning goals
- Receive guidance on logistics of PlantingScience and F2 research study (research responsibilities, use of website, etc.).
Teachers will:
- Feel prepared and supported to teach the Power of Sunlight module in their own classroom context (assessment, scheduling, mentor preferences, accommodation, etc.).
Scientists will:
- Feel prepared to support and communicate with students effectively as mentors.
- Feel prepared to support the teacher and other mentors in a liaison role.
