Hi!
I'm very sorry to hear that school is closed and that you won't be able to continue with your project as expected, but I hope that you are feeling safe and healthy at home. That's the most important thing right now.
Also, Arin, it really sucks that softball has been canceled. That sounds like it would be really hard.
The University where I work is also closed to all in-person activities, and I've been staying home for the past two weeks. Overall, I feel very lucky because I can continue to do some of my work from home. For example, I have been reading scientific papers and doing statistical analyses on data sets that I collected earlier in the year. However, it is tricky to stay on track and to feel a clear separation between work and time to relax.
One fun thing that I've started to do while at home is listening to podcasts while doing a puzzle. It's been a great distraction!
How have you all been feeling about this new situation? Has anyone else found a new indoor hobby or been learning a new skill (improving time management is a really great one!)?
I hope you are all well!
Kate

Liaison Jill reported that this mentor "did a great job connecting with student (and all of our) concerns about working from home (time management) and how to keep work-life balance while working from home. I know a lot of students are struggling with this. Some like being able to sleep in, many struggle to learn remotely, and everyone is lonely."

Scientist Mentors Needed!
As we grow and continue to pursue our F2 research, we are sending out this appeal to our Scientist community: please spread the word and invite your students, colleagues, and friends to sign up and mentor with us! Mentors range from late undergraduate students to emeritus scientists. Feel free to download our mentor flyer and post it in your institution to encourage others to join us, too!
Testimonials
“I liked that we didn’t know what was going to happen before we did the experiment. Instead of being taught something and then just doing an experiment to prove it, we made an attempt to find out what would happen ourselves.”
- PlantingScience Student
“At every opportunity, all involved kept reminding my students of the process that real science requires. This helped me to convince my students that they are really doing science - not just play acting until some future date.”
- PlantingScience Teacher
“It is a lot of fun interacting with students from an age group I don’t have the chance to spend a lot of time with. It is a good reminder of where public knowledge of plant science stands, and a great opportunity for me to practice explaining key concepts in a simple and straightforward way.”
